In this lively thriller, Christopher Lambert stars as a chess master whose bid to win a major tournament takes an unexpected turn when his lover ends up murdered. As corpses start piling up like captured pieces, cop Tom Skerritt and psychologist Diane Lane start whittling away at Lambert's defence. Solid performances, especially from the suitably intense-looking Lambert, and some decent plot twists keep the picture on the boil sufficiently to delight thriller fans as well as chess players, who are rarely given the chance to enjoy movies based on this most dramatic and violent of games.

it is a gripping thriller involving lives of two chess players, in which the killer's moves were anticipated by the police based on moves used in chess.very good performance from diane lane.
