Before seeing this i thought it'd be in the same vain as 'day after tomorrow', 'independance day''armageddon'...er...'meteor'. But this film sort of flits between those, an erie ghost story like 'Number 23' ,and an alien mega fest, like the end of the last Indianna Jones.Now i appriciate that you may not have liked 23, or Indie 4, because neither did i. But this is slightly better for a few reasons.

The action sequences in the film are spectacular, and the whole doomsday thing always has me thinking about a film weeks after iv watched it. Planes and trains crashing with an impending armageddon, you'll be chewing popcorn untill it comes out of your ears.

Also there is the ghost story which, unlike '23', is actually real (within the realms of the film) and does actually do well in giving you a mild case of the heeby jeebies. However the explanation behind it left me a little deflated at the end(you may or may not agree). But aside from that, and an inexplicable feeling of irritation everytime the leading lady in on camera, its quite a good film to be curled up with.

Definatly not the feel good film of the year, and maybe it could have picked 1 genre and stuck to it, but definatly worthy of the 3 stars and 2 hours of your time. Just so you know.

Sci Fi yarn with Nicolas Cage, watchable, but goes down hill. Fades. Ridiculous ending. Film of 2 halves. In the end disappointing and just average really.

the basic plot & set-up sounds promising on paper but it has no real development or tension and too many unexplained undeveloped minor characters. underwhelming.

One of the worst films (except Avatar) that I've ever seen.

I love a good sci-fi movie me. I'm a closet geek. What I had hoped for from this was a solid, twilight-zone-esque mind-bending thriller. A bit like 'The Box'. What I got was poor acting, a plot with holes you could drive a small family hatchback through and, worst of all, ridiculous creationist-christianity undercurrents that made me start to think I was watching a piece of christian 'intelligent design' propaganda. Nick Cage phoned in a poor performance and i never for one minute cared what happened to any of the characters.

I beseech you, do not watch this movie. It's two hours you won't get back. you want a throwaway, trashy sci-fi romp that will also twist your melon? rent 'The Box' or 'Source Code'. Want thinking man's sci-fi? rent 'Moon' or '12 Monkeys'. Do not, repeat DO NOT rent this.

great film gripping and thought provoking story line, the only problem was dvd kept stopping and freezing spoiled entertainment for me i had to keep stopping film and starting it again,
