A fascinating look at a different world
By RedValleyJohn (136 reviews) from Biggleswade , 23 Aug 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
Everybody has there their own views on travellers . Most of which would not be printable . Knuckles is a film that follows a group of feuding families over a 12 year period who try settle their differences by bare knuckle boxing.
This is a rare and fascinating look into a side of life that non travellers very rarely see.
These men , who have genuine hate for each other , pitch up and fight sometimes for hours , for the honour of their families and also for big big money.
What surprised me about these fight is that it is not as unruly as you might imagine. There is a referee who pulls the fighters apart and keeps order and the families who hate each other are not allowed to watch so to avoid brawls. Another this is , is that they very rarely actually knock each other out. Because these are proud men , they don't stop , so eventually fatigue becomes the winner.
I really enjoyed Knuckles. It showed a group of people who are so fiercely proud of the families they belong to but have an almost Neanderthal way of life.
Well worth watching.- Was this review helpful to you?

Wonderful eye opening documentary
By uniqueness (77 reviews) from Glasgow , 24 Dec 2012Extremely good documentary. Even if you have no interest in Boxing or fighting, the draw for this film is that it has a hypnotic tale to tell which is absolutely fascinating. The people, the culture they live in and their stories is really quite amazing. It's a culture that our society knows little about but this film gives a fascinating insight into it and i'd recommend this to anyone.- Was this review helpful to you?

Powerful Film
By Lambertio (2 reviews) , 17 Jul 2012A great a powerful film about two families long time feuds, It depicts how very real and different other cultures lives are compared to our own.
There are a lot of films around about gypsy's and what not however this one feel more close to the truth. its very graphic and very moving from both sides of the families.
It's a real shame the families or anyone for that matter needs to fight to sort out differences, earn a name, make someone proud or even seek revenge, however this life is chosen and nothing can be done to stop it.
Good luck to everyone of them out there, if you cannot stop the fighting at least keep it respectful and fair.- Was this review helpful to you?

Interesting look into the life of Irish travellers
By Guatie (14 reviews) , 01 Jul 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
and the culture surrounding bare knuckle fighting. This film follows the tale of two feuding families over the course of twelve years. An interesting documentary about a life and a culture of people little known about in mainstream society. Very male, macho and lots of fights. Not too gory. A decent enough social documentary. Four out of five stars.- Was this review helpful to you?
