Jack Lemmon's one and only film as a director. The direction was fine; it's a shame he never tried his hand at it again.
As ever, Matthau is brilliant here (even if he does seem to young to play the aging character..).
So, everything is fine. Two of films greatest involved in this film.. but sadly, the story drags. It is so slow and meandering, so boring. Aghhh; I hate to say this. Jack Lemmon is one of my heroes and I feel guilty putting his work down- but sadly this film really isn't much of anything at all! Jack and Walter should really have tried this director-actor combination on a better screenplay. If only Billy Wilder had written a film for Lemmon to direct...
