Older film-makers often mistakenly assume that teenagers are invariably desperate and obsessive about that all-important “first experience”. Something much closer to the truth is suggested in this Spanish coming-of-age movie, in which everything may be casual but while experiments and mistakes are made, ultimately nothing really matters. Two 16-year-old boys, Fernando Ramallo and Jordi Vilches, spend the summer in Ramallo's parents' house by the seaside, but by the end of the holiday, their sexualities have been both awakened and determined. Jordi Sánchez's play has been intelligently opened out by director Cesc Gay, who takes advantage of idyllic summer locations. The entire cast is good, but the boys, in particular, are outstanding. Rarely has a foreign language film been so accessible to British adolescents.

    Excellent

At last, a gay movie that's really worth watching. It tells the story of two teenage boys who share a summer together. One is intent on having one of the local girls; the other just wants his friend. His budding homosexuality isn't helped by the friend being very happy to indulge in bouts of mutual masturbation (Krampack). {Scenes which, incidentally, caused critics to walk out due to their explicit nature! I think they live a sheltered life} Confused and hurt when he's rejected for the girls, he turns to a local (and utterly gorgeous) gay writer.

A film with real insight into being a teenager on the cusp of coming out. Funny, insightful and just great fun to watch.

    Thoughtful and enjoyable

I really enjoyed this movie. It?s affectionate, non-judgemental and nicely realistic, refreshingly different to Hollywood teen movie offerings.

The two teenage boys discover their sexuality in a way that's stumbling and uncertain, almost painful to watch, yet totally convincing.

It features gorgeous locations, on the coast near Barcelona, bathed in lovely golden light that adds to the warm glow.

The film is sweet and sensual and funny, yet has serious things to say about maturity, relationships and sexuality.

Both boys give natural performances. where subtle glances reveal more than words.

The film doesn?t make everything neat and tidy. It's a difficult jump from boy to man, but Nico and Dani are well on their way.

    Really sweet!

Comming of age movie, with engaging characters and a plot to entertain. Really sweet! Did really well at the cinemas a while ago and got some good reviews, so this was on my list of "ones to watch" I wasn't disappointed.

    enjoyable, lightweight comedy

I found this film very funny and could relate to a lot of the situations in it. I think anyone would enjoy it, straight or gay, its funny and passes the time quite pleasantly. No great insights though but attractive performances and solid direction.

    Typical Continental Gay Teen Film!

Pretty good really and quite well acted.

The film revoles around Dani and Nico who are old friends who desperately want to find girls for sex and have a good time while Dani's parents are away but Dani has feelings for Nico which makes things complex.

Cute and true to life, well worth a look.

    Adolescent musings

Clearly seen back through the telescope of middle age, this story is the eternal coming of age scenario with a laissez-faire continental treatment of absent parents, days out and lashings of ginger beer. Wouldn't be out of place in an updated Enid Blyton story. Having said that, it was pleasant enought but not as outstanding as the other reviewers rated it.
