Karan Johar's directorial debut was much hyped before its release, but it offers little to distinguish it from the average Bollywood melodrama. The storyline is awash with sentiment, as young Sana Saeed follows the instructions given in the letters she receives each birthday from her mother, Rani Mukherji, who died in childbirth. It is a film one cant help loving, yet analyze it and you puzzle why, watch it and you are swept along with a mixture of hectic dancing, deep emotion, and wonderful music.
Trying to explain the magic of this film is one thing, viewing it is something quite another.
So just sit back and be prepared to cry and laugh as you watch a film that is a subtle mix of deep feeling, light hearted entertainment, hectic music, and heartbreak that pulls your emotions first in one direction and then the other.
A rare treasure from Bollywood
I think this film may be the best Bollywood film made. The storyline, characters, emotion and passion are endearing to make the film affect you greatly. i'd say all the songs are catchy tunes and great lyrics which'll stay in your head to keep you company. Obviously the films emotion couldn't be carried out without the works of shah rukh, kajol and rani mukherjee who did superbly. this film is a definate must see and can easily get you into bollywood whether your elderly or a teenager like myself. believe me i know from experience!
