Confusing, frustrating a little irritating but strangely magnetic. Whats it about? Love, life, death, fidelity, happiness, mysterious disappearances etc etc - the usual subjects I suppose. Not an easy watch but beautiful on the eye. Stunning leading ladies and a leading man straight out of Silvio Berlusconi's stable both in looks (Silvio must model himself on this fella) and attitude to ladies one could argue. The locals dont come out of it too well in Sicily - reminiscent of the horrible villages in Zorba though not as blood thirsty. A difficult film i would say but I can see how it became important in film history.
