Amusing rather than hilarious
By Nicola from Winchester, England , 21 Jul 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
I was a little disappointed by this film since I watched it with the preconception that it would be funnier than it is. The style of the film is rather choppy with some long set pieces, interspersed with shorter snapshots, which I found disrupted my concentration while watching.
Amongst the characters I particularly enjoyed Sarah Jessica Parker's non-stop youngster and Patrick Stewart's humiliating restaurant owner. There are more smiles than outright laughs, but it is still fun.- Was this review helpful to you?

LA Story
By a customer from Lyne Chertsy , 16 Dec 2008I like Steve Martin, so I enjoyed this flick. His character is in search of that one elusive sign which he feels will point him in the right direction in life. Will he find it?- Was this review helpful to you?

Almost fifteen years on
By Ana from Burnham, Berks , 26 Jul 2005This is still a really good film. If you have been to LA,or seen anything of the LA lifestyle you will recognise the exagerated observations e.g. driving the 4 metres to the neighbours house. This is worth watching to remember when Steve Martin made good films.- Was this review helpful to you?

Is it funny?
By TheGoatBoy from Derbyshire , 16 Jul 2005I don't know. I think if this is an attempt to use the Steve Martin sarcasm to inflitrate America it didn't work.
If this is an attempt to do away with or higlight the fakeness of california, well it's still hear.
But, the uniqueness of this film is that it tried. And it's by a British standard, it's a really great fim with lots of quirkness and comedy that Britains will fit in with. Especially about perceptions with the Americans.- Was this review helpful to you?

Clever and sarcastic
By Spencer from Sheffield , 19 Feb 2005This has been one of my favourite films for a while now. With Steve Martin's own blend of whit he delivers an outrageous piss take of the people that live in L.A. Taking the little things in life like different types of coffee and using this to define the eccentricities of the American's in L.A.- Was this review helpful to you?
