Terrific Nostalgia
By Chrisaljack (308 reviews) from Hellingly , 10 Aug 2010[Highly rated reviewer]
Having spent many years around professional ballet dancers and rehearsal rooms and shared the life of a dancer for over twenty years, La Danse had particular relevance for me. Fred Wiseman has lived up to his surname and left the action to speak for itself. If I have a criticism, it is that the film would have benefitted from some pruning and being shortened by half an hour or so. La Danse gives a real insight into the endless interaction and toil that is involved in a professional ballet company - and the jealousies and pettiness that exists! If you enjoy watching ballet, then La Danse gives a great insight into the hard work that is required for you to enjoy the experience of the final product.- Was this review helpful to you?

(7)Fly On The Wall
By buffyrules (335 reviews) from southend on sea , 08 May 2013Incredible dancing here throughout and very interesting insight into rehearsal and preparation. Yes it was very much a fly on the wall doc in the truest sense as it lacked cohesion or narration. If you like dance though, this is for you.- Was this review helpful to you?

Beautiful but a bit boring
By Nardo (23 reviews) from UK , 28 Feb 2012This film looks beautiful but without any narrative to guide you through, it ultimately disappoints. The dancing is marvellous, and sensitively filmed but you never get to know or care for any of the characters. You're left unengaged, simply to 'watch.' There's no attempt to 'get inside' the ballet company, so why not just go to the ballet? It would be more expensive, but much more rewarding.- Was this review helpful to you?

Far too long
By McClennan (424 reviews) from St Helens , 01 Feb 2011Minmalistic observation documentary that captures beautifully the strains of ballet that fit well in between re-watching The Red Shoes and Black Swan. As entrancing as the film is at times it goes on for far too long and takes the pleasure out of the viewing experience, turning it into a clock-watching exercise.- Was this review helpful to you?

2 1/2 hours of pure magic
By a customer from Wirral , 09 Jan 2011This film was superb.. to see behind the scenes at the Opera, even down to the sewers? underneath the building... if they were, they are the cleanest with little fish swimming in clear waters!! There is even a bee hive on the roof.. the dancers were just incredible and was a joy to see Wayne MacGregor working with great artists on his work.. cannot recommend highly enough!- Was this review helpful to you?
