La Dolce Vita
By a customer from London , 08 Jul 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Classic set in Italy with Marcello Mastrianno and Anita Ekberg playing spoilt playboy journo and a sexy American actress on vacation respectively. Beautifully shot, loud and graphic with some deeper thoughts on the meaning of life and the way we choose to live it. Source of that much maligned word Paparazzi.- Was this review helpful to you?

(106)Does not stand the test of time...
By a customer , 05 Mar 2012I like film but I am no student of cinema. I think that's what you'd have to be, to willingly waste almost 3 hours of your life for this...
Put simply this has not dated well.
I don't even want to waste the time to analysing it now, so I'm just writing this for the average person, to say don't waste your time unless you're into art films or Italian cinema.
Truth is it lost me after about 30 minutes.....- Was this review helpful to you?

Didn't meet expectations
By Stephfaye (1 review) , 07 Feb 2012This film was very difficult to get into. I watched it for about an hour and a half and then had to give up as I didn't feel I was getting anywhere with it.
Was a bit disappointed as it had been recommended to me but it wasn't what I expected.- Was this review helpful to you?

Hard work
By a customer , 27 Sep 2011Gave it an hour, decided that was enough of my life to waste. I guess it's like the Mona Lisa, when I finally saw it I thought, is this it? I had so looked forward to seeing this film, I am not sure what I was expecting, it wasn't something that jumped from one place to another with a vague thread running through it. Obviously, I am not well versed enough in theology or any other ology, as I found this tedious in the extreme.- Was this review helpful to you?

Barefoot fountain moments
By ash53 (53 reviews) from newbury , 17 Aug 2011Must admit I had to watch this slice of cinematic wonderment twice and enjoyed it each time for different reasons.
First time round its the photography, the imagery , the costumes , the high maintenance glamour - all in black and white and each frame worthy of being a still in its own right. Plus you get out of the habit of reading sub-titles!
Second time round its about the story and you realise that the sub-titles are almost irrelevent. Every picture tells a....well yes it does in this case. And thats the power of the film.
Even if you hate the film, hate the story and hate reading it is well worth watching for those classic barefoot fountain scenes. Also do not overlook the gorgeous Anouk Aimee who's bored sexy performance I think got slightly overshadowed by Ms Ekberg's more obvious cleavage.
At 166 minutes its a tour de force ( you have to do the second viewing on another day!) but somehow you dont want it to end...........- Was this review helpful to you?

Struggle to watch
By a customer , 14 Aug 2011This film is a real struggle to watch, maybe because i didn't think it was going to be a long film, maybe because it's just dull. A bit repetitive, could have been a bit more condensed and it might have captured my imagination a bit more. As it is, it didn't. Some of the storyline seems unnecessary, but I guess hindsight is a great thing. Still deciding whether to finish watching it...- Was this review helpful to you?
