My prior knowledge of La Forza del Destino was limted to the overture and a sketchy idea of the libretto. I found a powerful drama with many great arias sung with feeling by all concerned.
This is one worth viewing.
This is not Verdi at his best. Too much of it is more or less irrelevant to the plot, and quite a bit of fairly mundane music. At the same time it has one of Verdi's very best tunes and much other very good music. So it is quite a mixture. I didn't think the performance was particularly good but the camera work was better than for many opera DVDs. Not a wasted evening watching this but there are many much better opera DVDs.
