In Labyrinth of Passion, Celia Roth portrays Sexi, a nymphomaniac punk rocker whose gynecologist father (Fernando Vivanco) specializes in artificial insemination. Spanish heartthrob Imanol Arias is Riza Niro, the gay son of the Emperor of Tehran, who has fled his father's island to have some fun in Madrid. The two meet and eventually fall in love, but that's just the tip of the iceberg in this whirlwind comedy. A very young Antonio Banderas plays one of Riza's lovers and Almodóvar himself appears as a lead singer of a band in one of the film's hilarious concert scenes, singing "Grang Ganga" and "Suck it to Me."

Time isn't kind to this early Almodovar.
Very early, frenetic, over-octaned Almodovar. It was all-out-to-shock in 1982, but 30 years on it it just seems like an over-egged and barely coherent collage. ... read more »

Very dated and amateur movie that looks like a failed college project. Great movie title though but otherwise a waste of a postage stamp.

Why do middle names sound so much grander in Spanish? Joe Anthony Bands doesn’t sound like a movie star to me, but Jose Antonio Dominguez Banderas? You can see where he gets that Puss in Boots swagger. Born in Malaga just over 51 years ago, Banderas was brought up in a conservative household.
