This is the simple story of a boy and his Nanna set in 60s blues-laden Lackawanna New York. All performances are excellent and the story is touching but, at times, too sentimental (but, hey, I like that...). Worth the price of rental to see S. Epatha Merkerson break out of her 'Law and Order' restraints and prove that she is a versatile actor.
This is one of the most moving films I have ever seen and it isn't that well known. Saw this for the first ever time in the US when on holiday and loved it ever since. Originally made for the channel HBO it will make you laugh and make you cry. Dont believe ever released in uk cinemas. Well worth a watch and well deserving of 5 stars
