Marina Hands gives an extraordinary performance in the title role of this award winning adaptation of DH Lawrence's scandalous and controversial classic of sexual awakening. Trapped in a passionless marraige to an invalid husband (Hippolyte Girardot) in whose country estate she is isolated, the aristocratic young Constance finds unlikely solace in the taciturn form of gamekeeper Parkin (Jean Louis Coulloc'h). Despite their diametrically opposed backgrounds and initial disinterests, Parkin slowly unlocks in Constance a profound and previously undiscovered desire, whilst she coaxes him back from his self imposed solitude. A beautifully shot, wildly sensual and touchingly tender love story, 'Lady Chatterley' revitalises Lawrence's masterpiece for modern audiences.

Rubbish and its in French
This film is based on 'John Thomas & Lady Jane', Lawrence's slightly different version of the Lady Chatterley story. It is notoriously easy to get it wrong - over-sexed or unintentionally comical. This French film gets it 100% right.
The background is put solidly in place before the sexual passion kicks in; the lovers are superbly played; and the photography is beautiful . The sexual scenes are extremely erotic, and it was fascinating to learn that they were carefully rehearsed until the actors could play them with very little conscious thought.
An additional DVD gives a fascinating insight, in the words of the director, the actors, and various technicians, of the way the film was made. It is clear that the director, Pascale Ferran, is something of a genius who controlled the project meticulously, without in any way inhibiting those involved.
This is film-making of the highest order.
