Not the prequel one might have expected, but rather a sequel to DH Lawrence's classic novel, in which Lady Chatterley's niece, Cynthia, inherits the family home where she romps with a lot more lovers than her auntie ever did. A “respectable” piece of soft porn inspired by the success of Emmanuelle and its ilk, the movie is at least elegantly turned out and passably erotic. Certainly the characters and dialogue are closer to Mary Poppins than Lawrence, but since the “Derbyshire” locations are plainly in California, tongue-in-cheek humour may have been the intention. The film was successful enough to produce a sequel, Young Lady Chatterley II, that was not seen in British cinemas.

    Not as good as hoped

I rented this DVD on the grounds it was supposed to be very good. Wrong. It was so bad, I couldn't watch it all. It got turned off after the first two episodes (there are 4 in all) because I couldn't bear to watch anymore (and neither could my partner). The acting was bad (some characters were good, but on the whole...) and as for the sex...well.... lets just say it didn't do anything for me! I don't know if it got any better, and I'm sorry if it does, I just couldn't stand to find out.

For a film only made in 1993 it was badly dubbed in places and appears to have been made years earlier. This is the first DVD I have been unable to watch, and I'm really sad about it.
