    women in indian society

I really liked this film: it takes us on a journey with Manisha Koirala meeting lots of strong women in difficult situations (all played top actresses) occasionally helped by the the most unlikely heros

I'm sure a lot of middle class Indians in the UK will think this OTT but I suspect that some of the situations in this film are uncomfortably close to the truth...

    enjoyable and thought provoking

A good movie which drags at times

This is not an easy movie to watch at times because of the subject matters. The movie follows Manisha leaving her violent and uncaring husband and tracks her encounters with women in India. She meets mahima who is preparing for her wedding but has a problem with her soon to be in-laws and their greed for a large dowry to accompany her, she next meets Maduri who is a performer and is pregnant by her live-in lover within her troupe and finally rekha who is a nurse for a village under seige by a violent land owner. Each story is told graphically and focuses on the different dimensions of each woman and their tales. It is very hard hitting but does drag at times, especially the mahima story as it doesnt seem to digress at times from the movie. Otherwise a movie worth renting if you have a strong stomach.
