Writer/producer David E Kelley, of Ally McBeal fame, here turns his hand to a daft creature feature that will tickle fans of Tremors. There's something under the surface of Black Lake that's making monster munchies out of visitors, so warden Bill Pullman, paleontologist Bridget Fonda (Kelley's first choice for the role of Ally McBeal) and nutty millionaire Oliver Platt decide to hunt down the critter before any other bits of semi-digested locals pop to the surface. If you fancy something that isn't remotely brain-straining, this perfect popcorn entertainment could be for you.
A cheapjack horror movie that puts the emphasis on jokes, but a few good one-liners are not enough to enliven so much predictability.
this is a superb film.
it starts with something big, that is lurking in Black Lake .... and it is eating people.
Paleontologist Kelly played by Bridget Fonda is sent to investigate.
she joins forces with the local sheriff called Hank played by Brendan Gleeson, the Fish and Game ranger called Jack played by Bill Pullman and an intrepid crocodile hunter called Hector played by Oliver Platt,.
they set out to track the creature in the lake down.
the key to what is lurking in the water, all lies with the only inhabitant, who lives near the lake, an aged grey haired old lady called Delores Bickerman played by Betty White (of the golden girls fame).
Lake Placid is one of those rare breeds of movie that manages to successfully combine comedy with a horror content.
well worth renting out.
I seen this film first in early 2003, and found it excellent, just watched it again, and is still as good as the first time.
