Most helpful review Land of the Lost

  • Warning to families

Ok I admit it, I haven't actually seen this. Therefore I can't technically give it a rating. So how can I still give a 'helpful' review? Well I'm purely going on the countless reviews I've read from disgruntled american cinema-goers. Apparently, despite the fact this has been advertised massively as a family-friendly blockbuster, even showing previews before kids movies - it turns out to be NOT for family viewing. Crude sexual humour and sexual references, drug references, some swearing including the 'f' word and a few people were even complaining that the action was too violent and scary for their kids. Doesn't exactly match the PG-13 certificate. Needless to say, this has been very unpopular in America and a lot of people are not too chuffed about it's inappropriate content, most of whom warned not to see this if you want a family blockbuster. Several reviewers said it's more suited to those who like Will Ferrell's more college-aimed comedies, so if you like that sort of thing then you may like it. But after reading so many of these surprising comments (I was actually really looking forward to this movie), I wanted to warn other people before they too wasted their money on seeing this. Don't just take my word for it either, look on the internet and you'll see for yourself (I looked at the american yahoo movies site).

  • Ultimately Disappointing

    Rated - 2.5 stars

This was ultimately a real disappointment. I hadn't even recalled adding it to my rental list and nobody else in the family was prepared to own up to it, but we watched it anyway. Actually it starts quite well with a reasonable plot and storyline, given the obvious nature of the film. The sequence where they go to the Land of the Lost is quite funny, but that's about it for laughs. What is a shame is that there are some fantastic ideas and some of the sets and sequences show real imagination and great interpretation of the possibilities of the story, yet they are wasted on unfunny plot lines around hallucinogenic substances, intelligent dinosaurs and universe conquering aliens. Sadly this is where the film languishes; some great ideas, but never lifting itself beyond what the producers must have felt adolescents wanted from a Will Ferrel film. A real shame because with a little more thought and loftier goals to make a genuine family blockbuster this could have been great fun.

  • Daft, harmless, silly fun

Looking at the figures for Land of the Lost, it tells us that the film was a box office flop, recouping less than half its cost to make. I think that’s a little unfair. Granted it’s never going to win any Oscars, but if you’re in the mood for something silly then you could certainly do worse. It tells the story of Will Ferrell, playing basically Will Ferrell (his acting isn’t much different to most of what he does) as a scientist who – and it doesn’t really matter how – slips into another time/dimension/world – whatever – with hotpant-wearing Anna Friel and some redneck guy. There, they come up against various monsters like ape men, dinosaurs, lizard men and a T-rex with a grudge. Yes, it’s completely daft and stupid. But it’s also quite amusing. Just sit back, put your brain on hold and enjoy. Did I mention Anna Friel wears hotpants a lot?

Will Farrell and Danny McBride, ...what are you expecting? Add a very personable Anna Friel and you have a fun little movie.

Why is this film displayed on your site if you can't rent it. Very poor! It's like going shopping in Tesco and not being able to buy any off the food. Pointless
