A Hollywood Western influenced by other schools of film-making. The wit and charm of Kurosawa's original, Yojimbo, has been replaced by a raw energy and gunfights in the style of John Woo; but its glum, conscienceless protagonist lacks the style of

That's right folks, they had the audacity to remake A Fistful Of Dollars with Bruce Willis and set it in Prohibition-era America. But wait, don't go, it's actually darned good!
Willis plays John Smith, a man on the run from various debt collectors when he stumbles accross a small town in the middle of the desert which is being fought over by the Italians and the Irish mobs for control. Smith falls foul of both and ends up playing one off against the other in true Yojimbo fashion. It's very stylishly shot and directed by Walter Hill, still one of the best directors around, and although at times guilty of sloppy pacing and over-styled editing, this film is well worth watching. Special mention to Christopher Walken as the mad as hell henchman Mr Hickey as well as a comanding and undoubtedly subtle performance from Bruce....nice.
As a keen Willis fan, I was encouraged to watch this one as he is the main character in this film, certainly wasnt disapointed when I watched the film, good action, better acting on Willis' part than some of his earlier film. If you like western's, but like Willis more, you will enjoy this one..
if u like loads of shooting in your film this is the 1 to get .loads of shooting through out the film. a couple of dry boring bits but most films have that normally more. another complaint i have is that he uses about 50 bullets for 2 guns b4 he reloads and he only reloads when hes shot people not in between not very realistic but i dont care as the shooting scenes look awesome. get this film u wont b dissapointed.
not your type of film to expect bruce to star in but very very good

If like me you're a die hard (no pun intended!) Bruce Willis fan (although even I have to admit I couldn't bring myself to watch more than 10 minutes of Hudson Hawk), then I think you will love this film - feel free to ignore the Time Out review if it's still there - critics have to be paid for something!
I watched it a few weeks ago, and it was shown on TV at the weekend - and I had to watch it again! I loved the usual cool style that Brucie showed for most of the movie, right from the moment he had his car "improved" when he first drove into town, right up until he got caught out. I'm not going to mention the plot - it's been seen before, but for me Brucie adds that little bit extra.
Without doubt an unashamed rip-off of the famous Clint Eastwood movie Fistfull of Dollars, but this time its set in a 1930's mid-west town during the prohibition/gangster era. Its sometimes a little over the top on portraying a 'Cool Hand Luke' image for the film hero played by Bruce Willis, and that over emphasis threatens to overshadow a good film. He carries off the part well though, for all that. The only problem you'll have is if you have seen Fistfull of Dollars, you'll instantly have the overall plot nailed, however the Director succeeds in keeping the drama going. Well worth watching - dont if you hate bloodbaths, the bodies and gruesome gun battles flow thick and fast. Not for the squeemish.
Willis arrives at a town run by two bootleg gangs. He is employed at first by the Italian mob (how? and then by the Irish mob. Naturally there is much gun slinging at which Willis excels, what else would you expect? Quite a good Western and worth viewing.

Nice Film Worth the time, gripping story and perfect casting.....
Ending was the most beautiful part.
christ I hate having to write a bloody title. Anyhoo - forget the fact that this was a box office disaster and reviews were poor at the time as this is a fantastic film in the vein of the Japanese classic 'the last Samurai' here set in prohibition era america and has the feel of a classic Clint Eastwood spaghetti western with Bruce Willis excellent as the moody assasin with a heart (again similarities with many of those Clint Eastwood roles). Well I appear to be rambling so I will end by saying that in my opinion a very enjoyable film that I highly recommend.
Good action film. Bruce Willis is up to his usual standard.
