Just goes to show.....age doesnt matter!! All the actresses were brilliant. Nice to see Billie Whitelaw (Of The Krays and the original Omen films). Only problem was, we didn't see enough of her!! Not forgetting Dame Judi Dench, who, as always, was excellent, and Cleo Lane, whos singing talent is second to none, as always!!
The story is about a group of women (and one man!) whom formed a band during the second world war named the Blonde Bombshells, as the film suggests!! and how they reform to play at one of the ladies granddaughters school. Exceelent acting by all and a film well worth watching with brilliant comedy undertones!!
A 'made for TV' film with a roll call of fine actors in the third age of their lives, Judi Dench, Ian Holm, Cleo Lane, Joan Sims, Olympia Dukakis, Leslie Caron, Billie Whitelaw and June Whitfield. Judi Dench as a recently widowed senior citizen looking back on her wartime (World War II) experience as one of an all girls swing band, the exception being Ian Holm as a tranvestite drummer, The Blonde Bombshells. Dench determines to try to get the band back together and the story revolves around the efforts to locate and persuade the survivors to make a comeback. A funny, nostalgic, heartwarming feelgood piece. The actors have been well coached by a host of jazz musicians to look as if they were really playing their instruments.
