What can one say about 'Summer Wine' that hasn't been said before? Episodes 15 & 16 see Roy Clarke's writing still in full vigour. The terrible trio consisting of Bill Owen (Compo) Peter Sallis (Clegg) and Brian Wilde (Foggy) still getting up to the sort of mischief usually perpetrated by the young but as they refuse to grow old, in spirit, their japes remain youthful. Despite former Corporal Dewhirst's attempts to keep them on the straight and narrow, 'that man ther! Smarten yourself up!' Compo remains aggressively subversive and Clegg quietly so. With a cast of wierd and wonderful characters Howard and Marina and Pearl in their desparate search for affection. Ivy at the cafe, Smiler always bemoaning his fate, Aunty Wainwright gimlet eyed for a profit and the rest add to that the glorious Yorkshire scenery. You either love 'Summer Wine' or you don't, I do!- Was this review helpful to you?
