Last Party 2000
By Stewart Cruickshank from London , 16 Apr 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Philip Seymour Hoffman is the excellent host in this documentary into the state of democracy and consumerism in the USA, filmed in the run up to the 2000 USA presidential elections.
Parallels with Michael Moore are naturally drawn and, in the end, Hoffman?s views on the Bush election are clear but what is refreshing about Last Party 2000 is that it remains, to the most degree, impartial and the viewer is allowed to make their own opinions without being force fed propaganda.
All areas of the USA political spectrum are given a platform and the left wing radicals often come off worse than the supposed corrupt Politicians.
Taking on such a vast subject matter does limit Hoffman to only scratching the surface on many issues but the diverse range of opinions does make for entertaining viewing.- Was this review helpful to you?

(21)Useless, partial and pointless
By a customer from Streatham , 15 Mar 2008Hoffman says at the beginning of the documentary something along the lines of 'i was never political, but the things that were going on in my country, I felt I had to say something'. Yeah, yeah... oh Gawd. The thing is, he is left wing, he always has been, and the reason he got involved in the first place is because he wanted to shout about it. In which case, don't readv the frankly appalling script, and just be honest about the horror of Bush, eh? We switched off after about five minutes. Probably less. And we're dyed in the wool lefties.
This is MTV level politics for American, under-informed teenagers, and is frankly painful. Avoid.- Was this review helpful to you?

Thoughtful
By bfaulk44 (53 reviews) from Bridgwater , 26 Feb 2008Very much in the style of Michael Moore, and then, all of a sudden, there's Michael Moore.
I suppose it has its sell-by date, but what the heck, it gave me the chance to remember how we arrived at this mess in 2008.- Was this review helpful to you?

A Party to Avoid
By a customer from Leyland , 21 Sep 2006Dreary left-of-centre documentary bemoaning the plight of modern American democracy. Philip Seymour Hoffman wanders around, wringing his hands in despair at the erosion of decent values in American politics. The film is part of this newly fashionable genre of left-wing documentaries but it has much less to say than The Corporation, Michael Moore's stuff and even Supersize Me. It shows that the real problem for democracy in general and the Democrats in particular is self-pity and lethargy of which this film is full. Meanwhile the neo-cons laugh all the way to the White House.- Was this review helpful to you?

Zack De La Roche for US President!!!!!
By Nadiestar (140 reviews) from Ruislip, Middlesex , 30 Jun 2006Land of the free? give us your tired your weak your poor? Like F**K!! I'm watching this film 6 years after the fact. 6 years after Al gore lost the Presidency and retreated to nowhere. Al Gore for all those of you not in the know has just released a movie in the USA (likely to go straight to DVD here) called the Inconvienant Truth! Ironic really when Al Gore at the time of his presidential campaign was head of an Oil company. 6 years later he has turned all eco warrior trying to make us all aware of the environmental cost of us polluting the planet!?!?!?!?
George W Bush son of a failed president, head of an oil corporation, friend of the saudis and the Bin Ladin family, brother of the governor of Florida (the infamous state that bought his presidency), exocutioner of 152 people in Texas whilst he was governer (that equals 2 prisoners a week while he was in office and the majority of them were black and hispanic) and general incompetant DUFUS!
Dubya, spent most of the first 9 months of his presidency on vacation. That was until Sep 11th.
I would like to make people aware that none of the 9/11 issues are addressed in this film.
This is a film about the seedy, horrid side of the greatest super power on our planet. A government no matter whether they are republican or democrat have done nothing for the people. They only want to see the corporations that support them and their campaigns get wealthier not the actual people who genuinely need it.
i am shocked by this movie and insist that everyone watches this film if only to open your eyes to what the American government does to its own people and maybe it will open your eyes to your government and how inflicted we are with Tony Blair and how we are never able to get him out of power until he decides to resign.
Also Kudos to the appearance of Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins (both political activists), Eddie Veder (of Pearl Jam) and Rage Against the Machine another very political band.
Philip seymour Hoffman has done his nation (and hopefully the world) proud on enlightening us to the problems that are prevalent in the greatest nation on earth (supposedly). But i want all of you viewers to look at the peaceful organised protests (which are covered in the constitution) be dispersed by the police in the most brutal and horrific fashion and it make you feel blessed to watch the begining scenes of Dr Martin Luther King, and the marches on Washington, talking about peaceful change. But not in the 21st Centuary..... Not in the time of the most educated and enlightened people and era of our time.
PLEASE WATCH THIS FILM!- Was this review helpful to you?
