One of the best American gay filmsBy Rehan (128 reviews) from London , 18 Nov 2005
[Highly rated reviewer]The only thing that lets this otherwise excellent film down is the American fondness for treacly sentimentality, here focused on the Jacqueline Bisset character who, both in terms of plot and (alas) acting, could easily have been left out of the whole story. The inevitable songwriting roommate is also a little too 'Friends' for what is in most ways a serious film.
Having said that, it's a film that's actually worth watching more than once, and that speaks for itself. It's not, as you may fear, a simple or simplistic story of the coming-out of a repressed gay man; rather, the narrative is concerned with the value of sex and, from the point of view of the Mormon family, tolerance - or the lack of it.
And both lead actors are unusually well-cast, wholly convincing in their parts and that in itself makes the film worth seeing.

That feel good factor movieBy stortman (19 reviews) from Bishop's Stortford , 24 Oct 2013I dont normally go on American films yet alone American gay films, however I found this a most enjoyable one. Its story seemed quite feasible and it left me with a ' feel good ' feeling. It wasnt pornographic or seedy but It had all the contents of fun, emotion, tragedy, religious conviction and conscience and true male love and affection required to rate it as an all round good gay movie.
Watch a different boy on boy love story!By a customer , 22 Sep 2013I watch a lot of gay movies and although low budget they tend to be badly written and rather cliched. However this movie, takes the typical boy meets boy story and throws some religion at it. Ok, it still suffers from a low budget and there are some cringe making scenes with gay disco scenes but the acting especially from the two main leads is fantastic with some real chemistry.
enjoyable use of timeBy Hug (6 reviews) , 18 Sep 2013I watched this with some friends and we were all agreed this is one of the better gey theme films to emerge. So much so that one of my friends is intending to purchase a copy for his own collection. For once it had a happy ending!
A good pictureBy AMNflk (7 reviews) , 01 Aug 2013An enjoyable gay romance with (for an american film) genuinely good comedy. Likely to appeal mostly to gay men, but quite accessible for others.
Faith or desire, or both?By SteviePS3Gamer (11 reviews) , 01 Jul 2013A good movie all in all, it has a bit of happy, a bit of sad and some delightful eye candy (the eye candy mostly down to Steve Sandvoss, on that score). Now since Mormons usually send their hottest looking guys, to knock on our doors, to try and sprinkle some of gods fairy dust on us all, Steve Sandvoss easily fits into this struggle with his desires and his faith, showing both darker and lighter moments. Perfect to watch on a Sunday, praise the lord LOL.
