better out there
By tjp (7 reviews) from LEICESTER , 10 Jun 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
good little time-passer if you like old film noir but i struggle to see how this got 5 oscar nominations, there are far better films out there (e.g. Sudden Fear with Jack Palance & Joan Crawford, sadly not available on dvd). Better than a lot of newer rubbish films but purwly a sunday afternoon film for me this one...- Was this review helpful to you?

(10)Laura's lament.
By Propsman (6 reviews) , 01 Apr 2012Sadly this classic has not passed the test of time. Gene Tierney & Dana Andrews are impressive but an unbelievably camp Clifton Webb and a young and wooden Vincent Price date this movie , big time.- Was this review helpful to you?

period drama
By a customer , 13 Feb 2012First-rate atmospheric murder mystery that stretches credulity only a little. Excellent period piece into the bargain. Webb, Tierney and Andrews deliver focused performances.- Was this review helpful to you?

misses the mark
By rendlesham (19 reviews) , 23 Oct 2011not that good..poor acting and a plodding story...definately second rate...if you've got flu and need to pass the time it gets 5 out of 10...otherwise get another film of this genre...it doesn't quite do it...- Was this review helpful to you?

Great Film
By Mosco (201 reviews) from London , 22 Jul 2010[Highly rated reviewer]
I was impressed with this. Gene Tierney plays Laura who is part of a murder mystery and we have the detective investigating mainly the fiance and the good friend, both of whom dislike each other. We get occassional flashbacks to fill us in on how they came to have their relationships with Laura as the investigation continues and keeps you guessing right to the end in true noir style. The whole cast in this are really impressive but it is really had not just stare at Gene Tierney and marvel at how remarkably beautiful she is. It really is quite unbelievable.
So all in all, it's definately worth watching.- Was this review helpful to you?

nice little mystery
By itstinks (681 reviews) from North of Reading , 18 Apr 2010A pleasant little film about an investigation into the death of an attractive girl. With the detective slowly falling under her spell. A few twists and turns keep it interesting although the murderer seemed obvious to me.- Was this review helpful to you?
