The ingredients are there for an enjoyable movie, but I never quite believed in the characters. For a deeper and more emotionally charged look at LA excess I'd recommend 'Ivans XTC' - but 'Laurel Canyon' was entertaining, and the bonus interview with Lisa Cholodenko is a cut above the normal 'bonuses' you usually get.
