A little film with ...By JenKilch#1 from LONDON , 19 Feb 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]A little film with plenty of charm. Lisa Cholodenko, with a little help from brilliant production designer Catherine Hardwick (Thirteen), proves that she is a pro when it comes to writing character studies. Laurel Canyon is a touching tale delving into the consequences poor communication can have on individuals, their family, lovers and friends. Lisa Cholodenko's first feature film High Art already set her up as a brilliant screenwriter and director. Both films have a real feel about them, a strong atmosphere. Lisa has a knack for casting just the right actors - in this case Frances McDormand and Kate Beckinsale steal the show - and adding a spot-on soundtrack as a finishing touch.
I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good character study and strong visual images.

zzzzzzzzz!By a customer from Norfolk , 07 Jul 2005This film was so boring that I couln't be bothered to watch it all. I'm glad I didn't spend good money to see it at the cinema!
Don't know what to sayBy a customer from London , 30 Jun 2005I'm sure this film will be enjoyed by many, however I found this film to be a bit pointless. Yes, I understood why the couple wanted to get away to a quiet place where they could be together, yes I understood how the very academic girlfriend was lured into her mother-in-law's wild and seedy life and I can understand why the boyfriend reacted in the way he did.
But at the end of the film, I just thought 'OK... but so what?'
differentBy a customer from bournemouth , 30 Jun 2005yes we enjoyed it, it was something different but it did seem to drag out.
err... not much happensBy Jake from London, England , 23 Jun 2005It's just dull, not much happens, middle class drivel. I could not understand how such a thin character study and plot could be made into a film.
So I took a glance at the extras, but it seems the Director just wanted to make a film based around where she lives, GREAT REASON FOR A MOVIE!
A few films that pop into my head that tackle similar subject far better, LA Story (about LA), Eyes Wide Shut (about temptation and a lot of other stuff), Short Cuts (Haven't seen this in ages but it good)
DisappointingBy a customer from Wales , 22 Jun 2005Not worth watching and a waste of Frances McDormond
