Yes, it isn't about helicopter chases or expensive sets, neither is it driven by the location scouts (though the location is perfect), this is a film about seeing the same world from different points of view, feeling about the same situation in different ways, and it works. Splintered it may be, narratively, but it all rotates around a warmly growing sense of emotional depth and therefore holds together in a way that more than justifies the non-linear approach. Not a gimmick, but the only way to have reached what the film strives to reach and does. Lovely performances all round. My only complaint is that Sukie Smith has, subsequently, been so under-used by a UK film industry that needs the sort of great actress that she undoubtedly is.

I agree with the review from HDX. I enjoyed Bill Nighy and Tom Hollander's characters, the rest was neither here nor there. All the female cast were, however, quite good and made the best of what they had to work with. Looked like a made for TV movie stretched for widescreen.

  • Great cast, poor film.

Despite the likes of Bill Nighy and Tom Hollander putting in their usual accomplished performances, this is a moody, talky, mimsy and rather boring tale involving middle class people you can't really care about. In a word, dull.

  • Good Friday night movie

We didn't think we would enjoy this but actually it was a very good Friday night movie to watch. My husband would usually not like this sort of film but we were both captivated by it.

This is one of the best British films I've seen in the last few years. Great acting, great music, and the rural East Anglian setting is a nice change from the gritty urban backdrop of most modern Brit flicks. The three-part structure is clever without being too intrusive. Seeing the same story from different points of view helps you understand several of the characters who seem selfish or unsympathetic at first. You get to see their vulnerability and appreciate their 'good side' - it's a very humane film. The overall mood is a bit sad and wistful but it's also emotionally uplifting and even has a few jokes in it. Highly recommended.

Very well done. A very British film with excellent actors. A film that takes you away, wraps you up and involves you at all times. Clever use of a technique of seperating the stories but then slowly revealing the links between them. Moving and heart warming.
