Easily surpassing La Gloire de Mon Père, this is as delightful a film as you could wish to see. The characters are old friends by now and in comparison with the boorish game hunting of the original, the encounter with a family of fraudulent Bohemians and the duel with a grouchy watchman and his dog make for much more compelling viewing. Jean Rochefort is superb as the sham pseud and Robert Alazraki's photography of Provence is sublime. Yves Robert directs with a leisure that suggests long, hot summer days, while the ending is sure to bring a lump to your throat.

A perfect example of a great French film. A timeless classic. There simply aren't enough cliches to describe this film !
This film, and it's follow-up, La Gloire De Mon Pere, describe the childhood of a French boy and his family.
The scenery is beautiful, the music score fits perfectly, and the film is a classic.
You see, cliches again. Just give it a go.
This is a beautifully filmed memoir. It's carefully observed, moving and funny. One of the best French films available.
