Kent Nagano working with a japanese director brings an oriental inspired production of rimsky-korsakovs fairy tale opera which is still sung superbly in russian. The Japanese designs are truly sumptuous and the production owes much to japanese theatre styles but it all works a treat and is a feast for both eye and ear.Onlu gripe was silly large cr own for the seduct ive queen of samakhan but recommend thoroughly.Music is so beautiful and barry banks the diminitutive british tenor makes a great astrologer in what is the most difficulkt high tenor role of all the russian repetoire.Well done chatelat.
