    [Highly rated reviewer]

This film may not be up to vintage Godard from the French new Wave, but it is still a fine example of 60s cinema. The quality of the print and extras are great too. Worth seeing for the stars, Bardot, Jack Palance and the wonderful Fritz Lang. Much better than many of todays blockbusters. Worth renting for the stunning scenery of Capri if nothing else.

  • Pure Cinema (a real escapism)

At first when that recurring them played in the movie I thought it was used to manipulate the scene in order to invoke a particular feeling. But when it kept appearing throughout in the various scenes you soon realise that this movies is raw in it's depiction of emotions. Godard is a master of cinema.

  • only worth watching for Bardot

I agree with Mutter, a tedious film. Very frustrating and tedious never ending story line, which is like an argument which drags on forever. Bardot was brilliant in and not just a pretty face, she is beautiful in this film and acts well, its the only reason I kept watching.

  • Lost in translation!

Well it may be a French classic but it has either not travelled well thru the years or the libretto has got lost in translation! A very tedious film. Brigitte Bardot only ever acted herself (a la Marilyn Monroe) but she is a joy to watch on the screen, a woman of grace and beauty. I'm giving it four stars purely for the stunning images that were Brigitte Bardot in her prime.

The great Austrian director Fritz Lang films an adaptation of Homer's Greek poem Odyssey in Italy (Capri) while life imitates the art in the background. A strange one from Jean Luc-Godard with an equally strange cast--Lang, La Bardot (and her bottom deserves it's own credit!) and Jack Palance.

  • Dire dire dire!

I can't believe some of the pretentious twaddle that other reviewers have come up with to describe this dreadful film. It was truly dire, fast forwarded after thirty minutes of stagnation and switched off altogether about half way through. It is very rare that we can't finish a film and are very broad in our tastes but this one had us reaching for the off switch.

Bardot the great actress? The opening scene with her naked torso lying on the bed showed her only talent, a great rear end. For the rest of the film, the pace was so slow, many stifled yawns, more of Bardot's greatest naked asset....more yawns. I am writing this review three days later and I can't remember any plot. Was there a plot?

I don't really care any more, but don't waste your time with this rubbish, unless you have a thing about BB's btm.
