I watched this and hardly laughed at all, however, when talking about it with a mate the next day we had a bit of a chuckle, so maybe this is one to watch with your mates and a couple of beers.
However, if you have to choose between the two for whatever reason, then watch series one...
I am a big fan of the LOG, and this Christmas special only enhanced my liking of the series. It allows the ever faithful viewer to glimpse the lives of people around Royston Vasey and even in Germany.
The script is as dark as usual, and contains even greater comedy moments. An excellent special to go along with an even better series which has rooted itself into the hearts of many people.
After watching Series One we raced to get hold of more...
This was next on our viewing list.
A collection of darker short stories. Some good stiff but not as rip roaringly funny as the first series - Alas no Pauline, Tubbs or the Dentons.
Worth a watch though.

Want to know why the village vet is so inept?
Want to know a little more about Herr Lipp?
Want to see Papa Lazarou again?
If the answer to each the above is yes, then you must rent this DVD.
If it's no, well, rent the first two series. Then rent this.
As vile sick and twisted as the best of the three series. If you liked them you'll love this. If you didn't then give this a good body swerve.
The League Of Gentlemen is funny, clever and deeply entertaining. This is none of the above. Unwatchable. Shame.
Three "horror" tales for Christmas. Each one features different characters from the
League's first two series and a surprise ending - explains how Dr Chinery gained his skills
as a vet and the dark hidden secret of the vicar, amongst others. Aficionados of the
League will love it - I loved it!
Not bad was not as good as the normal series but still worth seeing.
As a League of Gentlemen fan, I enjoyed this, There aren't as many laugh-out-loud moments as the orignal series, but it is still amusing and put together very cleverly. It has a nice little storyline showing why Mr Chiinerly the vet is so unlucky, and most of the familiar characters are in here. Recommended!
As a confirmed LoG fan I find this to be there best work so far. It manages to be both funny and genuinely scary. Loved Steve Pemberton line dancing and Pappa Lazarou. The vampire segment provided me with most of the chills. Well done LoG, however shame about Series 3 - gone for the smut angle on this one
