Great action sequences, good storyline and ok acting. This is not a dour japanese epic but a piece of fun.
First half is very good then it seems to 'go off on one' with some very silly scenes.
Enjoyable but don't expect too much for your money!- Was this review helpful to you?

(4)ruined by the music !
By a customer from Dumfries, Scotland , 22 Jul 2006This fantasy takes places in Japan's mythical past, which abounds with demons, ghosts and magic crystals. As fantasies go, the story is not bad and doesn't go over the top like some. I agree totally with one reviewer about the music. Here we are in the middle of a timeless zone where myths and legends reside, and out of the blue one hears 20th century soft rock accompanying a love scene. What terrible judgment to put this type of music in such a film, as it really is quite a good escapist story. I found it particularly interesting to see a very (very) young Hiroyuki Sanada (the lieutenant in The Last Samurai) playing a leading role. Sonny Chiba's head dress is something else - it looks like a prop from Lawrence of Arabia. However, I DID enjoy watching it.- Was this review helpful to you?

would give 3, but
By a customer from Fermanagh , 07 Mar 2006this movie is a terrible mixture. Nice piece of the Japanese fairy-tale, but those Hollywood-type songs in the second part of the picture were terrible. What kind of a moron put them there? You can enjoy this movie if in these moments you mute.- Was this review helpful to you?
