If its decent gameplay you want - look elsewhere

I may be biased but I base my opinions on wrestling (and probably all fighting) games on the Smackdown THQ series and in particular Smackdown vs. Raw 2006. That is why I never really enjoyed the Acclaim games, although some were genuinely truly terrible - Hardcore Revolution anyone?? However this game has one distinct advantage over the Smackdown vs Raw game and that is the roster/charcters. You can be a Dynamite Kid, George The Animal Steele or even to go truly old-school a Bruno Sammartino or Harley Race. This may just be personal taste (and a sign that everyday I become more like my dad) however as I recognise, remember and have more empathy with the characters and personalities in this game. I also found the season mode to be more smart and have more longevity than the aforementioned SvR. However on pure gameplay (especially 2 player mode) it lacks. Its slower, the AI less intelligent, less match choices and quite frankly its easier. The combo system is quite good though. The characters are more cartoony and it sometimes feels that corners have been cut all over the game. A bonus on it however is an extra where you can watch mini- interviews with some of the stars of the game. It is not a feature that saves the game though. Overall if you prefer wrestling games for the characters you play rather than the game itself and cant be bothered spending hours creating a legend, this may be the game for you (Rob Conway or Terry Funk?) otherwise look elsewhere. But as I said before, I may be biased- Was this review helpful to you?
