  • Don't Trust a Movie By Its Cover...

    [Highly rated reviewer]

If the distributors thought that this cover would somehow get people to pick up their title, I think they were a little mistaken. What I do hope however is that through word of mouth this title becomes a little cult classic. Debating the idea of sexuality and the effect it can have on oneself and others, Les Choses Secretes may seem like a film that was made simply to arouse, but it is much more. For one it is intelligent. The two actresses at its head seem to have understood that to make this film honestly and truthfully they need to go to extremes rarely seen on screen. As mentioned by others this is a fun and clever film which is refreshing and entertaining. Whatsmore is that the nudity isn't gratuious (as it could have so easily been). Fans of offbeat intelligent foreign titles, this is for you - forget the cover, the film is MUCH better!

  • Descended into a Pretentious Perfume ad!

    Rated - 2.5 stars

The film started off very beautifully and showed promise when the 2 girls got together to plan their scheme. Some well acted erotic scenes but not a highly believable storyline. I thought the film started to lose it's way half way through and started to remind me of a pretentious Christmas French perfume advert where the CEO of the company was philosophising as only the French can do! The storyline became even more ridiculous and the background music was pretentious and somewhat unsubtle. The orgy scene was absurd as was the ending of the film and like other reviewers I don't get the mysterious figure with the bird lurking in the background. Overall the film left me rather unmoved by the erotic sensuality and somewhat disappointed, as I feel it started off with so much more to give.

  • Subtle and Sexy!

I really enjoyed this movie. It's not too in your face and so feminine and erotic; but in a romantic way. The start is suprising and sexy and the relationship that Nathalie and Sandrine develop is mischievious, with puprpous and sexy as hell! I just love the way they work to get what they want, using the only thing they have; their sexuality and ability to manipulate men with it. The only negative was the ending. A little ani climatic and creepy. It's definatly a movie for women who like to watch erotica.

Sandrine and Nathalie are two women on a mission which is to climb the corporate ladder by pretence and a ruthless disregard of any emotional ties. The rules of the game are outlined by Nathalie, initially the more dominant of the two, after they lose thier jobs at a strip club for refusing to sleep with the customers. The orgasmic dance performed by Nathalie was a demonstration of her allure and they become lovers. The rules are that they would get what they wanted by being aloof from the charms of their bosses before apparently succombing and then dumping them. It is Nathalie who persuades Sandrine to 'dare' to resist convention by being her natural self. They find jobs in the same corporation. They suss out who needs to be 'seduced' and work together to get themselves in the positions they need to be in. However, the plan begins to fray at the edges when Nathalie breaks her own rules. The women's almost irresistible force is countered by the top boss who is completely amoral and decadent and as cold and unfeeling as they would have liked to be. He is almost the Devil incarnate doing exactly what he wishes to do; the orgy scene near the end comes straight from a old painted fresco of wanton behaviour as it was imagined to be in Ancient Rome. Ultimately, the boss is more powerful than both of the women as he is the personification of what they wish to be. One woman betrays the other as she has fallen 'in love' with her intended victim so the whole plan fell apart. The ending had a surprise twist which was unexpected but nevertheless satisfying. The film was interesting and fascinating as we watched these female Joe Lamptons ruthlessly hit the top, well almost. The performances all round were superb and created some vital chemistry between the two leading actresses which was very convincing. There was fun too - the provocative behaviour in a metro station and Sandrine decking herself sensuously and seductively in Delacroix's office. Men were such easy prey.

I have to agree with the previous reviewer, a very erotic and sensuous start with a clever plot but the ending was very disappointing. Strong performances by both leading actresses.
