Still waiting for a film version worthy of the story of Les Mis

I've read the book. Honestly -- this film stays true to the book and tells the story. But that's about all. I felt the film was dry of the real passion and raw emotion that is behind the characters and the story in the book.
I think there have been a few attempts at a good film version of Les Miserables. Even if you leave aside any lofty expectations based on the musical, this film simply comes up short.
