Director Peter Whitehead turns his camera on Swinging London — the era when Carnaby Street was the centre of the universe and even Time magazine featured it on the front cover. This documentary features some fascinating interviews with 1960s trendsetters like Mick Jagger, Julie Christie, Michael Caine and David Hockney. No real conclusions are drawn, apart from Caine's prediction: “All this dolly-bird stuff won't matter a damn in ten years' time. It's on the way out already.” Only corpses swing, after all.

Complex, moderately sophisticated, occasionally funny musical inspired by On The Avenue (qv); lively characterizations but poor numbers.

    Let's Not

I had very high hopes for this film - a musical comedy with Marilyn, directed by George Cukor, and songs by Cole Porter. It didn't seem like it could go wrong. And yet it does. The dialogue doesn't sparkle, the musical numbers are poorly staged, and the story drags on for 30 minutes longer than it has to. It wasn't without its good moments, but I think this is only a film for fans of Marilyn.
