LOVEFiLM Review Let Me In

  • 5 stars out of 5

Fans of the original should approach this with an open mind, as this American remake is a worthy film in its own right.

    [Highly rated reviewer]

a remake after only one year ! is hollywood that short on ideas, what next girl with the dragon tattoo i suppose, just for those too lazy too read subtitles on foreign films which by the way i could only understand if you had learning difficulties such as dyslexia, me i love the original and would unlike the director of this remake urge people too watch the swedish version ! 'for people that don't know the director banned all the cast and crew from seeing the original' am not swedish ! but we should support independent films as much as possible !

  • Excellent film - slow pace classic hammer horror

Great coming of age Vampire movie. Fans of high speed action need not apply. Very much a Swedish pace of film and great acting by both the 2 main child actors.

  • Smith Mc-Phee and Moretz shine

Wasn't sure what I'd make of this one but I'd read a couple of novels by John Ajvide Lindqvist, the bloke who wrote 'Let The Right One In', the original Swedish book that the Swedish film was based on and thought I'd give it a go. I wasn't looking forward to Smit-McPhee because his whiney voice drove me nuts in 'The Road' and as a rule I don't really like Vampire films so it could have been a disaster. However as the 5/5 stars show I loved it. One of the biggest surprises of my film viewing life. Both the leads (McPhee and Mortez) were bang on top of their game delivering 4 star material in a 5 star standard. The general 'feel' of the film, especially the lighting the set design helped to paint what is really a very sad tale. Top marks to the location agent for picking the block where the lad and his 'girl' live. If I could criticise anything it would be that there were a couple of storyline strands that were crammed in that weren't needed and so were thinner than cheesewire and looked like they were dropped in. Overall though, probably in only my opinion, this is one of those rare films that surpasses the original.

  • "See the original" is unfair.

I must admit I haven't watched the original. But, in principle, I think it's rather harsh to avoid a remake because 'it's a remake'. It's very common within the horror genre to do an English remake relatively quickly after a hit original. And to say it's been too soon to do a remake- who decided how many years you have to wait? Don't be silly! I thought this film was excellent. It's perfect for people who feel unsatisfied with most horror films where the story line is poor & they predominantly depend on shock/gore. This one has depiction of real 'human' relationships, with a meaningful storyline. (If you just want gory horror, this isn't a film for you.) Some people have described this as slow & boring. If I was in a bad mood, I might even suggest that those people have slightly slow attention spans & are not very good at empathising. This film was definitely not slow. Interesting stuff all the way through. I do agree with some other reviews saying that the ending could have been better- but I expect they're following the book (Personally, I wouldn't have minded if they got rid of the final scene & left it hanging. See what you think). The 'most helpful review' which directs you only to watch the original claimed we shouldn't watch this one as we should support independent films. Rubbish. This film's made me really want to watch the original- I can imagine how the Swedish version might have a different vibe. Will be doing that very soon. Enjoy!

I saw the Swedish version and this is very true to that story! Owen (Mcphee) does a great job and Moretz is exellent she is showing real talent in this! The film is done well slow in parts but still gripping and enjoyable with lots of blood and some gore but I wanted Abby and Owen to be together!

Great film! One of those movies you wish you could forget just so you could go back and experience it all over again.
