It had been a while since I last saw this and in that time I had forgotten just how good this film is. If like me you are looking for a piece of pure entertainment then you cannot go to far wrong with this. The pacing of the film is perfect, always providing something to keep you watching when it threatens to slow down too much. The action sequences still hold up today with a plot which moves on nicely. This film is by no means perfect but the central performances far outweigh any slight plot holes. The first and best of the Lethal Weapon series.
Generally considered as a classic, I found Lethal Weapon to be slightly underwhelming, especially in comparison to another 80s action film, Die Hard. The buddy-cop aspect has been done a thousand times since, but Lethal Weapon handles it well, with the old time officer ordered to look after Mel Gibson?s wild cop. Lacking the humour of the sequel, the film seems to take itself a bit too seriously, though the action scenes are solid, and the casting is spot on. The final showdown, however, is a bit lacklustre, poorly shot and hard to follow, though, as a whole, the film is enjoyable action fare.
Mel Gibson's son Will is dealing with his parents' divorce by throwing himself into charity work in Africa.
