One of the most underated teen films of the 80's

Right, I'm well chuffed to find that this is hopefully getting a DVD release. In my view this is Feldman' finest hour, on true comedy form. Haim is also okay but spends most of the time setting up lines for feldman.
I used to watch this film as a kid all the time. The gags come thick and fast. The uber simple plot unashamably panders to 80's American Suburban way of thinking. Everything is big, loud and brash, a knowing nod is even included to the blatant promotion of materialism and excess.
The film is very simple and will win no awards for originality. :-
- Geek somehow manages to get date with highschool hot totty.
- Needs to impress so 'borrows' his Granfathers car
- It all goes pear shaped, laughter ensues.
- Will he get the girl at the end? What do you recon???
Bottom line is this film is good, almost clean, no brain fun. Worth a watch if just for the stonking 80's soundtrack and Heather Graham in a pink dress so 80's it'd put Debbie Gibson to shame.- Was this review helpful to you?

The 80's Rock!
By HaveMySay (133 reviews) , 01 Mar 2013I'm slowly getting through all the movies starring Corey Haim. 'License to Drive' is movie number 8 on my list. 'License to Drive' is a teen comedy about Les (Haim) a teenager taking his theory test for driving and failing! His mates were depending on him passing his theory & practical test, and Les wanted to be driving to impress a girl called Mercedes (Heather Graham). He goes home wondering how to break it to his family and friends, but doesn't come clean. He tries to avoid driving at all costs, but when you have friends who want you to drive them round to hang-outs he gets behind the wheel. The film follows Les and all the trouble you can get into as a teenager who lies about having a license! 'License to Drive' is a light hearted comedy drama centred on all the teenage antics and how to get out of trouble as quick as possible. Onto the next Corey Haim film.......- Was this review helpful to you?

Typical 80s teen film
By VIDEOMONSTER (252 reviews) from Glasgow , 09 Feb 2011An interesting if not typical teen film for the 80s, offers lots of humour and warm performances from the Corey's and a young Heather Graham. Enjoyable but hardly groundbreaking and one children of 80s will enjoy.- Was this review helpful to you?
