this is difficult!
By a customer from Notts , 02 Feb 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
why does sweep picking look so easy to do yet impossible when you actually try it! you just sweep your hand down across the strings and then back up very quickly.. hmmm think i will need to practice this technique a lot and I can console myself with the thought that Jimi Hendrix never ever did any sweep picking! nor any right hand tapping for that matter.. guitar techniques he never even imagined of I guess in his day!
still good dvd with a good teacher taking your slowly forwards lesson by lesson and recommended.. just take it from me its very difficult to do!- Was this review helpful to you?

(3)Clean up your technique
By a customer from manchester , 18 Jan 2007Sweeping picking is a technique where you sweep or drag the pick across the strings, much like the raking; where you drag the pick across the strings while muting them with the left hand, but with sweep picking you actually play the notes. The technique allows you to play amazingly seemly impossible fast and fluid lines, but it is a matter a dexterity. The technique is based on economy of moment, which is the secret of playing fast and was really developed and pioneered by Frank Gambale (Rock/Fusion guitarist), and it is used today in many styles of music but prominently in rock and jazz. The DVD explains and demonstrates the technique very well, and gives you the tools, it's up to you to put the time in and practice as this is not something you will master instantly. But if you do master the technique it will take you playing to a much higher level.- Was this review helpful to you?

Hula Hoop for guitar
By a customer from Newcastle upon Tyne , 24 Feb 2006How to Hula Hoop - put the ring round your waist and wiggle you hips -Pretty much an analogy for the devide between the explanation of sweep picking and actually being able to do it!
The presenter, Stuart Bull I think though he does not say his name, probably rightly but somewhat unfortunately assumes we already know what sweep picking is and hence there's no background given here at all...no indication of how/when sweep picking came into being(jazz players like Barney Kessel ?), no discussion or clips of the pioneers, key players, nothing about the types of music in which sweep picking has featured...the only player briefly mentioned is Dave Gilmour! As far as the actual technique itself goes there is more to be learnt by actually watching than comes from the explanations..there's a bit on how to hold the pick but no mention of hand position/wrist action etc which clearly is important ,but fortunately you can more or less observe all this for yourself anyway. If you are not the type of person who wants to copy verbatim all example passages but would prefer to go off and try and use the basic technique for your own stuff this could just as well be 2 minutes long but still worth a rental if you have not access to a real person who can do this stuff.- Was this review helpful to you?
