Funny, funny, funny......
By a customer from Middlesex , 01 Sep 2003[Highly rated reviewer]
ahhh I just think this is such a good film. The cast are great and the story is just compelling.
It has a few depressing moments - but what great british film doesn't as it subjects we can all understand.
Jane Horrocks esp stands out in this - probably one of her first films.
If in doubt add this to your wishlist now.- Was this review helpful to you?

(91)Watchable good kitchen sink drama
By Bobsview (554 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 03 Apr 2013Typical Mike Leigh study of the ordinary- grim and underclass family life but where hope and love and optimism can occasionally surface. The usual cast and the usual good quality film.- Was this review helpful to you?

Horrible film
By a customer , 09 Feb 2013A mistake to get this film. Excellent cast but they were wasted. Embarrassing to watch. Too much shouting. The last 10 minutes were the best and this pushed up my rating slightly.- Was this review helpful to you?

Are they taking the mickey out of me?
By Kirkcudbright (22 reviews) , 03 Feb 2013Oh dear- what's with those accents? If the actors have a go, and they can't do it, then either drop the actor or the accents- they're so bad it's insulting. Honestly, what was anyone thinking? Are they 'doing' working class? Is that what they teach you at RADA- is there a little book that you take with you to auditions, and you spin a wheel on the front until you get to 'the working classes', and open the book, and it says 'shout a lot and breathe with your mouth open'. Wow, so so bad. Had to turn it off (and I was with friends, and none of us could take it any more). I don't understand how anyone involved with Secrets and Lies or High Hopes could have been involved in this.- Was this review helpful to you?

Life is Sweet
By a customer , 10 Jan 2013It was an entertaining film, with first-rate acting by a star-studded cast, but I did not think that it was as good as other Mike Leigh films, such as Another Year.- Was this review helpful to you?

Life is Sour
By Flics (1 review) , 13 Dec 2012Oh dear! I had thought Life is Sweet was the sparky Mike Leigh one about the young teacher and the driving instructor. My mistake! Any Mike Leigh film is worth watching but Life is Sweet is bleak and downbeat. There is a whiff of redemption at the end for a couple of its characters but otherwise Life is Sour and Brutish- Was this review helpful to you?
