  • Policing at it's best!!

This is how policing should be!!

Well, some of it.....no red tape, no bloody human rights....

Oh, and it is a fantastic series, John Simm & Philip Glenister are brilliant actors....it's just a shame it can't go on for more and more series.

It would be good for Sam to go back to his year and meet DCI Hunt as an old man, and they have one of those 'deja vu' moments....

Get it, watch it and fully enjoy it!!

I've had this on my rental list for months waiting for the discs after seeing and loving Ashes to Ashes. Have to say, am liking this just as much. The whole cast are brilliant in it, really enjoyable and highly amusing in places. One of the best series in years.

Fantastic series. Especially moved by the speech John Simm gives at the end of the football episode. Gene Hunt is a breath of fresh air in a world gone mad on political correctness. Beautifully done. Always thought Simm out-acted David Tennant in Dr Who (yes, I know, difficult).

  • Looks Like The 70's, But Not Enough Plot!

    Rated - 2.0 stars

I adore John Simm and having missed this on the BBC, I was eagerly anticipating the chance to watch this series. I was however just a little disappointed.

The novelty of the 1970's theme was at first, enough to keep me interested, spotting all the differences between the positively antiquated 1970's policing styles and the advances in technology and forensics today was interesting. But after a while, you realize that this is what the series relies heavily on and in doing so, the actual plot took quite a back seat.

Having overdosed recently on the brilliantly written crime drama's Cracker, Luther, Morse and Frost recently, Life On Mars pales in comparison.

If as much attention to detail had gone into the story lines as the costumes, sets and props, this gem of an idea could have become a classic.

  • Compelling and intricate series, well worth seeing

A fantastic series, with well thought out characters and casted very well with talented actors throughout. There was compelling interplay between characters and genuine feelings of emotion were portrayed. I could not stop watching and immediately wanted the second series.

It has a unique story line and an unusual hero in Gene Hunt, who you can not help but like. Sam Tyler is very believable and you can feel his frustration and anxiety at his situation.

The wide selection of 'choice' language, along with racism, sexism, homophobia and general pig-headedness makes you feel for Sam as he battles against the neanderthals he has been made to work with - and you respect him even more for not only keeping his distance, but standing up for what he believed.

A brilliant series that is suitable for all types of TV lover. I would recommend it to any adult!

  • Great Series!

Great series, I only wish there was a third, well thought out story lines and a good bunch of believable characters. It is good too because it is done well enough to believe it was done in the 70s. John Simm is just tremendous as Sam and each character brings a lot to each storyline, acted well and very enjoyable, especially when they work under cover as Tony and Cherie Blair, and then their friend Gordon Brown turns up (another under cover cop). Good story lines, good characters and fantastic actors....what more could you really want, highly recommended!
