Terrible sound
By Magnus Stanke from London , 04 Feb 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
Unfortunately the sound quality is so bad that it makes this dvd unwatchable - which is a shame because it's probably very good and only one of very few available William Powell films...- Was this review helpful to you?

(12)Sunday Afternoon Viewing
By Cowbiscuit (17 reviews) , 01 May 2013Cosy period comedy. William Powell plays a good part as the Father in the middle. The humour seems slightly sugary and stuffy at first, but it soon becomes apparent the movie is a kind of satire on such stuffiness within a formal household. There are genuinely funny moments throughout the film. Little in the way of plot, this is more of an easy stroll through the lives of the family. Etiquette, rules, values, generation gaps and ultimately love - all come under the merry microscope. The sound is a little muffled and the print a little scratchy at times, but it's certainly very watchable overall. Nowhere near as bad as some other old movies on DVD out there. It's a sweet, harmless comedy and a definite must see for William Powell fans.- Was this review helpful to you?

Longsuffering husband...or wife? You decide.
By Mardiray (2 reviews) , 27 Apr 2013Had no trouble with the sound, (played it on the computer). I laughed all the way through this film; the interactions between the married couple, especially about money, were hilarious, and this was definitely a time long ago when men and women had very different roles. Give it a try.- Was this review helpful to you?

A Perfectly Matched Couple!
By a customer , 25 Jan 2013This streaming video was just fine in sound and colour, and William Powell (Father) plays a strong role with ingenious touches of humour alongside Irene Dunne. I especially liked his advice to his eldest son about women -- oh the irony. The youngest son's unexpected answers and facial expressions throughout really amused me, too. A good 'old-fashioned' family film.- Was this review helpful to you?

Stay with it and adjust the sound
By Voul (3 reviews) , 27 Dec 2011A bit slow to begin but it picks up and the plot is simple but well crafted. As regards the sound it is not very good but you can always turn it up a bit and it is worth it for some snappy lines- Was this review helpful to you?
