Life
By a customer from Huddersfield , 21 Jan 2010[Highly rated reviewer]
Life is another example of what the BBC is so good at: a high quality visual feast of fascinating insights into the natural world. Camera work is stunning, sound recording is first class, narration and presentation are informative and interesting without resorting to a patronising or overly dramatic tone.
Why one star? Because, at the final stage of production, some numptie producer decides yet again that the stunning visuals, incredible sounds and subtle narration require something more. Some musical steriods, to add that little bit of Hollywood oomph and sense of 'scale', as if there wasn't enough there already. Even my 9 year old daughter gets fed up with the musical interludes: 'why can't we just hear the sounds of the animals?'.
Fine, some people love this edutainment style, with added musical slush and 'comedy moments'. I don't. I wish the BBC would let me switch off this idiotic blot on the otherwise faultless soundtrack when watching on DVD. Until that happens, I will register my protest vote. I know I'm not alone and I know that some of those working in the Beeb also agree. It's time to give us some choice, even if only when viewed on optical media.- Was this review helpful to you?

(12)HD at its best
By gianino (620 reviews) from London , 18 May 2013This is where a blu-ray player pays off. The photography is mesmerizing, the shoots are incredible and the narration by David Attenborough is superb. Some of the scenes were too cruel for my taste but that's mother nature unfortunately that is cruel.- Was this review helpful to you?

One of the most amazing wildlife documentary
By Chantal (1104 reviews) from London , 12 Sep 2010I enjoyed every episode of this serie. What makes it special is the 'on location' bit after. It simply is amazing the amount of work they put into this specially the one about the plants.
I was crying by the end of the serie that they didn't made anymore.- Was this review helpful to you?

Sir David!
By Charlluke (8 reviews) from England , 17 Jun 2010If you liked the Blue Planet, you'll love this! This for me was one of the best from the BBC. The shots of the animals in there true form, the camera work and the super slow motion shots are brilliant. All that along with Sir David, you really can't get much better from a nature programme. Only lost half a star from me because there were only a couple of seens that were used twice.- Was this review helpful to you?

Loving Life
By a customer from Trefechan, Aberystwyth , 28 May 2010This is an excellent series from the BBC narrated by the wonderful David Attenborough. The camera work is astounding and at the end of each episode they focus on a specific part and show you how they filmed it - the Komodo dragon one is amazing! It looks at many different kinds of creatures and goes to many spectacular locations.
Absolutely flawless.- Was this review helpful to you?
