Almost ten years after appearing in Clueless, Brittany Murphy is still playing the dizzy dreamer — only here, her fluffy character is, unbelievably, the associate producer on a daytime talk show. Swallow that and you'll swallow any of this far-fetched nonsense, as the nosey 20-something is egged on by her co-worker (Holly Hunter) to delve into the secrets held within her boyfriend's electronic organiser. Although Murphy never really convinces, her clumsy charm is engaging, while the role of self-serving confidante showcases Hunter's underused aptitude for comedy. But what starts off as a cute, if dumb, exploration of female insecurities soon becomes increasingly cringeworthy, as Murphy's obsession with her beau's exes turns from curiosity into inadvertent cruelty. Fortunately, the biting climax saves the day, even if it's diluted somewhat by the formulaic sign-off.

    Not bad...

It's unfortunate that this movie was overshadowed by bigger box office draws last summer because it is, in fact, much better than you might think. Kathy Bates makes a good performance as an ageing talk show host; Holly Hunter is the shows' producer who is getting to a certain age and realises that she needs to move up the ladder, or at least leave an lasting impression. The villainous side of her chooses the latter, and the story begins as she takes the new associate producer, Brittany Murphy, under her wing, persuading her to delve into her boyfriend's PDA to find out about his previous lovers. As the old adage goes...be careful what you look for you just might find it! Ok, Brittany Murphy is no Meryl Streep, but she makes for good eye candy and the ending is priceless!

    A Little Grey

First of all I would give this 2.5 stars, but I can't do that and I couldn't stretch to 3. A watchable film, the second half is better than the first. My biggest problem with this film was that they should have cast Meg Ryan as the lead role, perhapps they tried, I don't know. Brittney Murphy is lovely and acts well with lots of Meg Ryan lovability and energy, however, all the time I was thinking Meg Ryan. I can't put my finger on why it didn't work for me, maybe if you are female it does and I am not being sexist. All in all a watchable film with very funny parts and a story that you can watch unfold.

    Slow, but finishes dramatically

This film plodded along for the most part and then takes off in the dramatic Reality TV sequence, which seems to be an expose of these shows, which cruelly manipulate people to encourage them to share their personal problems with the whole world. This is really the part of the film that sticks with me and made it worthwhile, and I could not help but wonder how true to life it is.

The acting was good and it has its funny moments, so not bad over all.

    Bad one Brittany

Oh dear...i have a lot of time for Brittany Murphy, she's very much under-rated as an actress, but this film, through no fault of hers, is poor. The problem is that its just a plain boring storyline...simple as that.

excellent film for teens and light hearted comedy

very much a mid teens movie, 14 year old daughter found it excellent. As adults we too found it funny and a good lighthearted saturday evening entertainment.

If you are female, this is a must!!

I had quite low expectations of this film from the mixed reviews I had read, but after a slow start it became really gripping, if only for the awful female betrayals. I won't give too much away but for a girls night in there is something in it for everybody, although the ending could have worked better without the feel-good finale.

    A GOOD RAINY AFTERNOON FILM

LOVE BRITTANY MURPHY FILMS, THINK SHE HAS NAILED THE FEMALE COMIC LEAD BUT WAS SLIGHTLY LET DOWN BY THE ENDING, YOU EXPECT A CERTAIN FORMAT FROM A ROMCOM BUT THEY VEERED FROM THIS AS THE FILM WENT ON, SO IT WASN'T THE TYPICAL ENDING I EXPECTED. BUT IF YOU WANT A FEW TEARS AND A FEW LAUGHS WITHOUT HAVING TO THINK TOO MUCH, THEN THIS IS THE FILM FOR YOU.
