Continuing in the tradition of his hits THE WATERBOY and HAPPY GILMORE, Adam Sandler stars in LITTLE NICKY, a supernatural comedy about Satan's geekiest son. Nicky (Sandler) is relieved when his father (Harvey Keitel) decides to continue as ruler of the underworld for another 10,000 years instead of picking one of his bullying brothers, Adrian (Rhys Ifans) or Cassius (Tom "Tiny" Lister), to reign. Adrian and Cassius, hungry for power, decide to travel to New York City in order to spread Hell on Earth. Only Nicky can stop them and save his father--and the world--from his brothers' evil schemes. But Nicky has no idea what to expect from New York City, and he has to deal with new activities such as eating, sleeping, and meeting a new girlfriend, Valerie (Patricia Arquette). His friends Mr. Beefy, a talking bulldog, and John and Peter, a pair of hardcore heavy metal fans, try to help Nicky stand up for himself and eventually save the universe. LITTLE NICKY features a cast of regulars from other Adam Sandler movies, plus a hilariously bizarre sense of humor that allows all sorts of odd and twisted things to happen.

This might be stupid, crass, vulgar and more tasteless than the last three Farrelly brothers' movies put together, but it is also — in places — gloriously funny. For the first time, comedian Adam Sandler gets to perform his trademark moronic schtick against a backdrop of visually imaginative production values and devilishly good special effects. Director Steven Brill's trifle won't win Sandler any new fans, but it has enough fantasy flair to at least give his detractors pause for thought. Complete with Waterboy-style speech impediment and contorted face, Sandler plays the son of Satan (Harvey Keitel), dispatched to Earth to bring his brothers (Rhys Ifans and Tommy Tiny Lister Jr) back to the underworld before they can gather up enough evil souls to stage a coup in Hades. That's all the plot this satire needs to allow Sandler to head-spin and fire-breathe his merry way through one satanic skit after another, taking in a talking bulldog (the best visual effect in the picture), two heavy metal head-bangers (the hilarious Peter Dante and Jonathan Loughran), numerous character morphs by his nasty siblings, gross bodily functions, trips to a Clueless heaven and overall spoof-Exorcist silliness. Bound to offend every minority group going, Little Nicky provides abundant lowbrow wit and a winning take no prisoners attitude that Sandler's admirers will adore. If you're not one of those, then either don't bother, or take cover!
Sandler's persona of simple-minded man-child wearies more than usual in a cheap, crude, tasteless comedy that is woefully short on laughs.
I didn't think I was going to like this, but it's not that bad. It's not as funny as it thinks it is but it made me laugh a few times. I do think they should have dropped the swearing and aimed for a younger audience. My kids would've loved this, but with the language it's not appropriate. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a prude and swearing's great used in the right context, I just don't think it 'fitted'. The plot is quite immature and adding a bit of cursing doesn't make it grow-up.
If this doesn't bother you, or you can see through it, it is quite amusing. Little Nicky does rely quite heavily on 'stupidity' comedy and at a cost $80,000, it should've been a lot better.
Some cameo appearances from the likes of Ozzy Ozbourne and Henry Winkler do brighten it up.
Every 10,000 years, Satan picks a new devil to become the next head of Hell. Satans three sons (Nicky, Adrian and Cassius) go to hear his decision. He thinks they're not quite ready and that he wouldn't retire. Furious, Nicky's brothers jump out of Hell and seal the gates. Now Satan is dying unless Nicky can save the day.
Nicky heads to earth where he meets a bulldog who shows him his way around. Then it's time for business.
It's probably worth watching once, but I certainly won't be buying it.
This is one of the best films I have ever seen! If you haven't seen it, then you should! Adam Sandler is fantastic in this and it will really make you laugh. Not suitable for young children or adults who are rather religious.
