LIVE FOREVER is an amusing documentary that takes a look back at the 1990s and the musical movement commonly known as Britpop. Pedalling a retro sound and unoriginal look, a wave of bands--Powder, Menswear, Salad, Suede, Elastica and occasionally bands with more than one word in their name--were catapulted into the limelight for their 15 minutes of fame, or in some cases even less! Fortunately there was some cream amongst the crop and this documentary concentrates on the bands of the time--Oasis, Blur, Pulp--who truly made an impact. Featuring a host of hilarious interviews with the likes of Damon Albarn, Jarvis Cocker and the Gallagher brothers, LIVE FOREVER remembers the time when it looked like British guitar music was going to conquer the world.

Britpop was a social phenomenon that heralded the dawn of New Labour. At least that's the contention of this lively, but narrowly focused, insight into the 1990s music scene. Ignoring the Spice Girls and the entire dance-music sector, first-time director John Dower concentrates on guitar bands with vague political agendas in a specious bid to celebrate a single cultural constituency that several of the interviewees actively deny. The issue of laddism is also airbrushed, yet the class fissures that divided the scene remain clearly evident. Damon Albarn, Jarvis Cocker and Noel Gallagher offer valuable analysis, but other contributions range from the peripheral to the downright embarrassing. Despite speaking to all the right people and including the most pertinent clips, this pretty much misses the point.
It seems so long ago. 1994, '95, '96, when Britpop ruled the air waves and the Blur/Oasis debate reached the giddy... read more on Time Out
Brilliant rockumentary on the rise and fall of 90's britpop. Featuring bands such as Oasis, Blur, Massive attack and other bands that defined the term 'Cool Britania'. Some wicked interviews with Liam and Noal and loads of extra footatge.
The title says it all really. This is an oasis docu disguised as an explaination of the mid 90s 'Britpop Explosion'. Don't get me wrong I like Oasis, but it wasn't all about them.
Rent it if you like oasis otherwise I wouldn't bother.
