A brutally comic tale about a group of London friends who find themselves deep in debt to an East End tough, LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS is quick-paced, stylized, and highly entertaining. Widely regarded as the best British crime movie since The Long Good Friday, the youthful exuberance of Guy Ritchie's debut feature is truly infectious. The superb cast is spiced up with the presence of celebrities such as Sting, and especially Vinnie Jones in a well-received henchman-with-a-heart role. The action revolves around young cardsharp Eddy (Nick Moran), who loses ?500,000 he doesn't have to crime king Hatchet Harry. With a week to come up with the shortfall, he and mates Dexter Fletcher, Jason Flemyng and Jason Statham plan to hijack the proceeds of a robbery hatched by their gangster neighbours, but things go horribly wrong very quickly. Cheerfully amoral and featuring some canny carnage, it's fun from start to finish.

Clever, stylish, intricately plotted black farce, enjoyable if you can surrender to its gleeful delight in murder and mayhem.

    Simply brilliant

    - If you think that a commercial-shooting director shouldn't attempt the big screen...

    - If you enjoyed Tarantino's work, 'Fargo', 'Trainspotting', 'Fight Club', 'Snatch' or 'Memento'...

    - If you want a taste of rhiming cockney...

...you must definitely watch this film.

Just a warning, it's definitely not for the narrow-minded...

A true oddity... don't miss it!

A tedious trawl through a bunch of Gangster movie clichés is the best you can really say. Its saving grace is that it isn't too long, and contains the occasional flash of humour. Do yourself a favour; watch this one, recognise that Ritchie really is at best merely competent, and spare yourself the pain of watching any more of his hacckneyed, derivative gangster movie retreads. Watch Sexy Beast or Gangster No.1 if you'd like to see how its really done.

    Superb Story Line/plot

Do not make a cup of tea, go to the toilet, answer the phone or doorbell during this rivetting movie. The storline is exceptionally good but you daren't miss a minute as there is so much going on, you may lose the plot! Terrific convincing performances by Vinny Jones and a debut performance by Lenny 'The Governor' McClean. Top Stuff.

    Smoking Indeed

This film is perfect in every way, from the cast, to the costumes and the soundtrack. Bravo to Guy Ritchie. Due to the numerous stories that take place throughout the movie there is never a dull moment and I don't think anyone would have realised how all the stories link at the end. British cinema at it's best.

is that a storyline or is that a storyline?

A group of friends who suddenly owe a bigshot a lot of money find themselves trying to get hold of some. the intrigue that follows is amazingly set and will keep viewers guessing at every turn of the way. the story line is as unorthodox as they get; a totally original masterpiece where criminals end up hunting thieves who end up hunting their bosses who end up hunting everyone. The way the story-tellers pit the different parties against one another has no parallel in the movie industry. Scenes and shots are also massively artistic and aesthetically shot.

You usually see a 'A must watch' at the end of encouraging reviews but arcane as it may sound, you haven't lived if you haven't seen this movie. Believe me, you W.I.L.L. N.O.T. B.E. D.I.S.A.P.P.O.I.N.T.E.D.

This movie rates 10/10 on the WNBD scale.

When you dance with the devil, you wait for the song to stop.

Guy Ritchie has a skill: the skill to take multi-layered gangster plots, weave them together, and come out with a fabric of the finest quality. As far as I'm concerned, if Ritchie can maintain this level of creativity, he can keep on making these films until the end of time. His characters are so well scripted and the actors so well chosen, there is a three-dimensional quality to this film, as if you can almost taste the sulphur in the shotgun blasts.

To describe the plot is difficult, unless we choose one character as the hero and the rest as the anti-heroes... but that's also diffcult. While certain people seem to be on our side, they're all equally involved in the plot. Twenty-somethings playing poker, a porn king who cheats at cards, Big Chris the hired thug, the stereotyped black ganja dealer, the northern monkeys, Barry the Baptist... all great characters.

Another aspect of Ritchie's films is that instead of good vs. evil, he offers us bad versus evil. All the characters do bad things: steal, drink, smoke dope and kill if necessary. But some are simply 'bad' (people who would be morally upright in a different setting) and others are 'evil' (no moral code at all, black all the way to the core of their heart). This almost non-dichotomy is probably not unique to Ritchie, but is something he excels in.

A great british movie, but not one to watch with your mum. A definite lads film with a lot of violence and darkness to it. Despite this the storyline is genius, it has some incredibly funny moments. It is a thrill from start to finish. Well written and directed, great acting from Vinnie Jones et al. Add this to your list now!
