A Great Movie..... Ruined By An Unexplained Ending

I really enjoyed 'Loggerheads', until it came to the end.....
did I miss something ???
I watched the last twenty minutes or so two more times just to be sure, but.....
Without giving the story away.....
when did it happen ???
The unexplained ending spoiled it for me !!!
