To start, I personally wouldn't consider Loose Cannons a comedy. It definitely has funny moments in it - the excellent one liners and scenes with the friends from Rome are hilarious - but these are overshadowed by the drama of the family, and the events following their secrets being revealed. It is beautifully filmed and acted throughout and cleverly mixes the subtle comedy of the carefree members of the family, with the serious and deeper lives of the brothers, father and grandmother. The story doesn't flow perfectly and it can sometimes feel like you are watching two films mashed together... but give it a chance. The movie definitely improves after the dramatic first act and the final sequence is very emotional and powerful. I don't think this film will change your life but I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a blend of serious and emotional drama with fun and light-hearted scenes. The colourful characters will leave a smile on your face!

I caught the last 15 minutes of this on Italain TV - having seen the film completely I'm amazed RAI 1 showed it, A bit of a laugh, typical of some families I know.

I rented this, thinking it was just going to be a silly, fun movie. And it was, but it was much fuller than that - I was really very surprised how much I enjoyed it. Some great unassuming moments throughout, and really a great watch.

I LOVED this movie...set in a typical pictureaque Italian town / setting it's really about the various family dynamics entwined with their own personal history but centres about the dilemmas of a man coming out to his family while trying to maintain conservative tradition....very well acted, funny, sad, sentimental, real...all in well very much enjoyed it....at last a gay story with substance.....really recommend it...

  • disappointingly safe

disappointing gay melodrama far to safe and seems to me it is more interested in not offending its target audience than in representing gay relationships and characters ,in short this is entertaining but shallow
